Hot Compost In A Tumbler

Hot Compost In A Tumbler

I am going to see how fast I can make a usable batch of compost by just using my tumbler. The tumbler is 240L and it's split into two bays. I am going to completely fill 1 bay.

The goal is to get it very hot and keep it hot, which I'm hoping the two big bags of chicken manure will do. Two bags of the manure actually seemed to perfectly fit in the one bay alongside all the brown material.

Anyway, here's a rough breakdown of my setup for this batch of compost:

  • 2 bags of chicken manure, I'd say roughly 60L worth
  • A bunch of cabbage leaves as I just harvested my first white cabbages today
  • Autumn leaves for the bulk brown material
  • Some sugarcane mulch
  • Old compost from the last tumbler batch (sticks and other thick material)
  • Around two buckets of water, roughly 15-19L

I started the batch 5:30PM 11.06.25. Tomorrow morning I'll check the temperature and update this post.
